ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 Points Table: India dropped their points percentage (PCT) on the WTC standings after a draw against Australia in the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy clash in Brisbane on Wednesday.
Despite gaining four points to take their tally to 114 overall, India’s PCT slipped from 57.29 to 55.88 with only their second draw in the ongoing WTC cycle. Australia also had their PCT shrink from 60.71 to 58.88 with this edition’s second draw. The defending champions are still ranked second, behind South Africa (63.33), who are one win away from confirming their spot in next year’s WTC final at Lord’s.
India cannot afford another loss and can, at best, concede one draw in the remaining two Tests this series to remain in contention to qualify for the WTC final. Meanwhile, Australia have four games pending in the cycle, with a two-match series to be played in Sri Lanka from late January.
India’s WTC final scenarios
- If India win the remaining two matches, they will finish with 138 points and a PCT of 60.52, knocking Australia out of the WTC final race.
- If India win one match and draw another in the remaining games, they will finish with 130 points and a PCT of 57.01. Australia can then qualify for the WTC final if they beat Sri Lanka 2-0.
- If India draw Australia 2-2, they will finish with 126 points and a PCT of 55.26. Australia, in such a scenario, can move ahead of India with at least one win in Sri Lanka.
