With a call for ‘collaboration for the intelligent age’, the World Economic Forum began its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, on Monday (January 21, 2025) by conferring legendary footballer David Beckham and two others with the prestigious Crystal Awards and an opening concert to spotlight an urgent environmental crisis facing Antarctica.

The Indian contingent, the largest ever, put aside their party affiliations as the Centre and States came together in the skiing resort town, at least regarding the space for their respective pavilions. Two India pavilions together house all lounges and meeting rooms for the Union Ministers, Central government departments and State governments.

The first one has pavilions of Kerala, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh. Apart from the delegation from these States, the second one has pavilions of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Both pavilions will also host five Union ministers at different times.

    Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, during his tour to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, addressed an enthusiastic gathering of Telugu entrepreneurs and professionals at a Meet and Greet event organised by the Telugu community in Zurich on Monday. He expressed his pride in being a part of the Telugu community and shared his vision for the state’s future.

    Mr. Naidu said that it was his fortune to be born into the Telugu community, which has always been a source of inspiration. “If there is a rebirth, I wish to be born as a Telugu child again. My heart and soul are dedicated to the progress of our people,” he said.

    WEF President’s welcome address

    WEF President and CEO Borge Brense said the meeting is taking place at one of the most uncertain moments in a generation, as new geoeconomic, geopolitical and technological forces reshape our societies.

    The dynamic changes taking place are creating both significant challenges to address, as well as important opportunities, particularly regarding fast-evolving technologies, to unlock, he said.

    In convening 3,000 leaders from around the world and across the public and private sectors, our aim is to help strengthen or build the collaboration needed for this unique moment, he said in his welcome message for nearly 3,000 leaders from across the globe participating in the five-day meeting that will continue till January 24.

    States join hands with Centre to present united colours of India at Davos

    Putting aside their party affiliations, the Centre and States came together in Davos, at least in terms of the space for their respective pavilions.

    Two India pavilions, just a few blocks apart on the same side of the famous Promenade street, together house all lounges and meeting rooms for the Union ministers, Central government departments and State governments.

    The first one has pavilions of Kerala, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh. Apart from the delegation from these States, the second one has pavilions of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

    Both pavilions will also host five union ministers at different times, while the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Invest India are also present — the two agencies handling most of the country’s presence here.

    Industry body CII is also present with a large delegation of CEOs and other business leaders.
