‘Will be sad if it’s his last series.: Pat Cummins on Virat Kohli

Australia captain Pat Cummins said that it would be sad if the recently concluded Border Gavaskar series was Virat Kohli’s last Down Under, adding they enjoyed playing against him.

“It’s always been a wonderful contest. More than just the runs that he scored, he brings a bit of theatre to the game which is sometimes good and sometimes it can rile you up as an opposition, which I’m sure is part of his plans,” Cummins said after Australia won the BGT 3-1 on Sunday.

“Enjoyed playing with him. You know, he’s been one of the star batters for the last decade or so. You know, if you get his wicket it goes a long way to winning a game so yeah, it will be sad if it’s his last series,” he added.

Kohli, who came into the series looking to find form in a country where he loves to bat, could not spark into life. Except a lone century in the 2nd innings in Perth, the star India batter scored just 5, 7, 11, 3, 36, 5, 17 and 6 in all the 5 matches. That brings his runs in the whole series as a mere 190, a far cry of what was expected before the BGT began.

🫂 @patcummins30 will certainly miss playing against @imVkohli, if this was his last Test series in Australia!

India lost the Border-Gavaskar trophy after 10 years with a six-wicket loss to Australia on day three of the fifth and final Test on Sunday.

Australian chased down the 162-run target in 27 overs with Travis Head (34 not out) and Beau Webster (39 not out) taking the team home.

India lost the five-match series 1-3. Their only win on the tour came in the first Test in Perth.

Resuming day three at 141 for six, India lost their remaining four wickets for 16 runs to be all out for 157 in their second innings.

Pat Cummins and Scott Boland shared the wickets in the session with the latter completing a six wicket haul.

India had won the previous four series against Australia, two at home and as many Down Under.
