India’s outrageous batting exhibition led by Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma on Friday not only hammered the South African attack at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg but also left a female fan in the stands in tears.

Batting first in the series decider, Samson and Varma put on an unbroken 210 partnership for India to secure a mammoth 135-run win, their biggest over the Proteas. While Samson bounced back from two consecutive ducks to record his third T20I hundred within five innings, the 22-year-old Varma waltzed to his second century in succession in South Africa.

The pair slammed 19 sixes while Abhishek Sharma’s four maximums helped India set the record for most sixes by a team in a T20I involving Full-Member sides.

Wishing a quick recovery for the injured fan! 🤕🤞

Samson’s fatal hit

Samson’s devastating hit in the 10th over off Tristan Stubbs sailed over the mid-wicket fence. The ball appeared to land on the staircase of the mid-wicket stands before it bounced to hit the fan on the left side of her face. Visuals soon showed the fan in tears as she was handed an ice pack to apply to her face. Samson immediately appeared to have issued a gesture of apology by raising his arm towards the stands.

Samson tonked nine maximums as he remained unbeaten on 109 off 56, with Tilak going a notch higher with 10 sixes during his 47-ball 120*.

The 30-year-old Kerala batter struck 19 sixes in the series across four innings, with 10 of them coming in the first T20I in Durban. Samson’s tally is only bettered by Tilak’s 20 for India in any tournament.
