Wanted boy band member Max George will be spending an extended time in hospital getting treatment for “some issues” with his heart, he wrote on Instagram.
“Yesterday I felt really unwell and was taken in to hospital. Unfortunately after some tests they’ve found that I have some issues with my heart,” he said.
Without revealing details about the health problems, the 36-year-old said he was awaiting “a lot more tests to determine the extent of the problems” and the surgery he would need to get done.
Posting a picture of himself lying down in the hospital George said that although this was a huge shock and no doubt a set back, “it’s something I’ll take on with all I’ve got.”
George said that he would have to spend Christmas in the bed but is happy to be supported by his loved ones.
“It’s gonna be a difficult few weeks/months… and Christmas in a hospital bed wasn’t exactly what I had planned! But, as always, I’m surrounded with love and support from my wonderful partner Maisie, her family, my family and friends.. and I’m 100% in the best place,” he wrote.
“Although this is a huge shock and no doubt a set back, it’s something I’ll take on with all I’ve got! I count myself very lucky that this was caught when it was,” he added.
Signs of heart trouble you should not ignore
Heart disease is on rise among young people in their 20s and 30s, a worrying trend which has left health experts baffled. While earlier it was a rarity for young people below 40 to have heart attack, nowadays the trend is on rise.
The American College of Cardiology says that people under 40 are now experiencing heart attacks more often, with a 2% increase over the last decade.Around 6.7 million adults in the US have heart failure, and one in four people will develop heart failure within their lifetime. Recent research published in JAMA Cardiology shows that heart failure incidence, prevalence, and mortality are rising in younger adults.
Heart issues among young adults could be on rise due to lifestyle choices, environmental influences, genetics, and underlying health conditions. According to cardiologists, the common causes of increasing heart issues in young adults include unhealthy lifestyle choices, substance abuse, smoking, stress, undiagnosed conditions, environmental factors like pollution, and lack of awareness.
Here are some early symptoms of heart trouble you should not ignore
1. Chest pain or angina: Chest pain can indicate poor blood flow to the heart or a heart attack. This can happen when your heart is not getting enough blood or oxygen. This type of pain is called angina. The pain may vary from mild to intense, while some may not feel pain at all.
2. Shortness of breath: Heart conditions
such as angina, heart attacks, heart failure and some abnormal heart rhythms like atrial fibrillation can all cause shortness of breath, as per the British Heart Foundation.
3. Coughing or wheezing: Coughing or wheezing that persists could be another sign that fluid is building up in your lungs. You may also cough up mucus that is pink or bloody.
4. Swelling in the legs or feet: Swelling in your lower legs could be a common sign of a heart problem. When your heart is not pumping blood properly, the blood flow slows and backs up in the veins in your legs, which can cause the fluid to build up in your tissues. According to Mount Sinai, you may also have swelling in your stomach or experience some weight gain.
5. Palpitations: If your heart isn’t functioning well, it may beat faster to try to keep up. You may feel your heart racing or throbbing. A fast or uneven heartbeat can also be a sign of an arrhythmia.
