Usyk vs Fury: Tyson Fury was left disgruntled by the decision loss he faced at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk in Riyadh on Sunday, his second to the Ukrainian boxer. All the judges scored in favour of Usyk 116-112, prompting suggestions from Fury that this was a ‘Christmas gift’ handed to his counterpart.
“I will believe till the day I die that I won that fight. I was aggressive, on the front foot all night, landing to the body and head. Frank Warren [his promoter] had me three or four rounds up. A lot of people had me at least two rounds up. But I’m not going to cry over spilled milk. I can’t change the decision. When you don’t get the KO this is what happens: you can’t guarantee a win.”
A Ukrainian journalist asked Fury a question whether the war efforts of Ukraine and the spirit behind it were the reasons for Usyk’s win in Riyadh, but Fury refused to play along and said, “I didn’t feel no spirit. I felt a bit of Christmas spirit in there and think he got a Christmas gift from those judges.”
There was also the experimental use of an Artificial Intelligence judge – and the computer scored the fight 118-112 in favour of Usyk, prompting Fury to go on a tirade against AI, and curiously electric cars.
“By the review of that, absolutely shit,” he said. “F*** all the computers, keep the humans going. More jobs for humans, less jobs for computers. F*** electric cars too, while we’re at it.”
Usyk on the other hand chose to praise Fury and said, “He is a great fighter. He is a great opponent. He gave an unbelievable 24 rounds for my career. Thank you very much.”
