Try this 1-2-3 rule to cut down on drinking

Alcohol is injurious to health when consumed too much and drinking in moderation in a social setup can help you a lot in cutting down on drinks. The recent advisory issued by US Surgeon General, Dr Vivek Murthy, recommends that alcoholic beverages like beer and wine should carry warning labels about their link to cancer. Even moderate drinking can put you at risk of several kinds of cancer. The 1-2-3 rule is a simple guideline that makes you cut down on alcohol and drink responsibly in moderation, as suggested by US Coast Guard and in line with National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism’s

1 drink per hour

Make sure to limit yourself to one standard drink per hour and give your body enough time to metabolize the alcohol. A standard one glass measures 12% alcohol content of a wine, 40% alcohol content of distilled spirit, and 5% alcohol content of a beer.

2 drinks per day

Never exceed two glasses of drink in a day and keep it as a recommended limit as it can reduce the risk of long-term health issues associated with alcohol consumption. Decide the limit based to prevent overconsumption.

3 alcohol-free days in a week

Make sure to stay alcohol-free at least three days a week as your body requires a break.

Following these three rules can make a manageable decrease in alcohol intake and it also provides your body time to recover from alcohol consumption. The 1-2-3 rule can help lower health risks and this can also make sure that your body does not eliminate alcohol.

Following this rule or guideline can help you find a drinking pattern that works for the body and promotes a healthy lifestyle. Completely restricting alcohol can also lead to alcohol poisoning in the body when consumed suddenly after a long break.
The US Dietary Guidelines for Americans according to the years 2020 – 2025 stated that adults should limit the drinks per day, women one drink or less and men to two drinks or less than that.

Snacking or eating before drinking
Avoid mixing drinks with different alcohol content
