Thomas and Uber Cup 2024, India vs Canada (Uber Cup) Live Updates: Ashmita Chaliha will lead a young Indian women’s team at the Uber Cup with all the big guns skipping the tournament after competing in a series of tournaments to qualify for the Paris Olympics. Thomas Cup action for India will follow.

The young team without PV Sindhu will be looking to test their mental and physical fortitude in a group that includes China, Canada and Singapore. On Saturday, they open their campaign against Canada in Group A.

Besides Ashmita, national champion Anmol Kharb, who was the star performer for India en route their maiden Asia Team Championships title, will also look to test their wares as will Isharani Baruah in the second singles slot.

Later in the day, the Indian men’s team who are the defending world champions, will begin their Thomas Cup campaign against Thailand. HS Prannoy, Satwik-Chirag, Srikanth and Lakshya Sen created history in Bangkok when India won the Thomas Cup for the first time in history.

Indian women gained automatic qualification for the Uber Cup 2024 Finals after a sensational week at the Badminton Asia Team Championships in Malaysia earlier this year. A semifinal spot would have assured them their spot but they went the distance to clinch the title, overcoming a series of higher-ranked opponents. That title, albeit in a depleted field, was a shot in the arm for the women’s badminton contingent in the country, where the big wins have often come in individual tournaments. It marked PV Sindhu’s comeback to action from an injury break, but was made memorable by Anmol Kharb’s incredible arrival on the big stage. (READ MORE)
