Urvil Patel steals the show with a blistering 115 not out off 41 balls (8 fours & 11 sixes) (@GCAMotera | X)
Six days after he smashed the fastest T20 hundred by an Indian in 28 balls, Gujarat opener Urvil Patel cracked another blistering 36-ball century against Uttarakhand in Indore on Tuesday.
Batting in a 183-run chase, Patel unleashed carnage yet again as he smoked the Uttarakhand bowlers to lead Gujarat to victory in only 13.1 overs with eight wickets to spare. Patel finished unbeaten on 115 off 41 balls, with eight fours and 11 sixes.
His second T20 ton within a week’s time also made him the first batter to record two T20 centuries within 40 balls.
Interestingly, his 28-ball hundred also came in a similar chase at the Emerald High School Ground in Indore last week. Patel smashed a century in only 28 balls as Gujarat chased down 156 against Tripura in only 10.2 overs. Patel finished unbeaten on 113 off 35 balls with 12 maximums and seven fours with a jaw-dropping 322.86 strike-rate, only bettered among T20 centurions by Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan during his 27-ball hundred for Estonia against Cyprus earlier this year.
Exactly a year before that knock, Patel had struck the second-quickest List A hundred in only 41 balls against Arunachal Pradesh.
The 26-year-old Urvil was part of the Gujarat Titans squad for the IPL 2023 season after being picked up for Rs 20 lakh. He was later released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Patel was also listed for the IPL 2025 Mega Auction as Player No. 212, but found no takers at his base price of Rs 30 lakh.
