Royal Challengers Bengaluru player Sophie Devine will miss the upcoming Women’s Premier League after receiving professional advice to prioritize her well-being. The 35-year-old additionally will also miss the remainder of the ongoing Dream 11 Super Smash season with Wellington as she has decided to take a break immediately from cricket.
“Player well-being is paramount to us – it takes precedence over everything else,” said Liz Green, NZC’s Head of Women’s High-Performance Development. “Sophie’s had excellent support from the New Zealand Cricket Players Association and our high-performance unit staff, and everyone agrees this is the best option available.”
“The most important thing for NZC is that Sophie has a decent break, receives good support and care, and is fit and well before returning to professional cricket,” Green added.
Devine is not the only big player that will miss RCB for the upcoming season. Australian cricketer Sophie Molineux who played a vital role last season too has been ruled out due to a knee injury and England’s Charlie Dean is named as her replacement.
“Dean represents England in international cricket and has played 36 T20Is, in addition to 3 Tests and 39 ODIs. The England all-rounder will join RCB for INR 30 Lakh,” quoted an RCB press release.
“The left-arm spin bowling all-rounder was an integral part of RCB-W’s squad in WPL 2024, accounting for 12 wickets in 10 games at an economy rate of just 7.31 – including a memorable three-wicket over in the final that stole the game away from the Delhi Capitals,” it further added.
Earlier in 2024 RCB announced a significant new addition to their WPL roster as they signed Danni Wyatt-Hodge in a cash trade from UP Warriorz.
The explosive opener, who is also a brilliant fielder, is on the brink of 3000 T20I runs (2979) and has a healthy career strike rate of 127.85, going even higher in recent years.
