Rohit Sharma is not an all-time great to keep his exclusion mysterious: Sanjay Manjrekar

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar has made a scathing comment on the “Rohit Sharma saga,” who has been dropped for the final Test in Sydney and the conformation came shortly before play with Jasprit Bumrah walking out for the toss.

With scores of 3, 6, 10, 3 and 9 at an average of 6.2 for the series, Sharma has had a wretched tour since coming back into the side for the second test after he missed India’s comprehensive first test win in Perth on paternity leave.

Sanjay Manjrekar questioned team management for keeping the news of Rohit Sharma sitting out of the fifth Test match a secret until the toss.

“Rohit is well rested. The issue I have with Indian cricket culture, the secretive operation,” Manjrekar said on Star Sports.

“Rohit is not an all-time great to keep his exclusion mysterious.

“I can understand if it’s Virat Kohli. But Rohit has played 60-odd Tests with one overseas century and an average of just 40. I don’t get why it should be so mysterious.”

From 67 Tests, Rohit Sharma has scored 4,301 runs at 40.57. However, his average number drops to 31.01 away from home (two hundreds), and to 27.95 in the SENA countries (one).

So typical of Rohit Sharma. Doing the right thing, doing what’s right for the team. But could not understand the ‘cloak & dagger’ around the issue. Wasn’t even talked about at the toss. 🤔

“So typical of Rohit Sharma,” Manjrekar tweeted later. “Doing the right thing, doing what’s right for the team. But could not understand the ‘cloak & dagger’ around the issue. Wasn’t even talked about at the toss.”

Earlier at the toss, Jasprit Bumrah has said Rohit has opted to rest.

“Our captain has shown leadership by opting to rest in this game,” Bumrah said at the toss.

“That shows there’s a lot of unity in this team. There’s no selfishness.

“Whatever is in the team’s best interest we are looking to do that.”
