Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Format, squads, groups, match dates

The senior men’s domestic will make a full-fledged return as the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season is slated to begin on October 11 across the country.

The upcoming edition will be the 90th season of the prestigious red-ball tournament. Mumbai won the Ranji Trophy last year, beating Vidarbha in the final at the Wankhede Stadium to clinch a record-extending 42nd title.

Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Format, dates and groups

With several matches being affected by bad weather during the winter last season, the BCCI has decided to split the Ranji Trophy league stages in two windows this season. The first leg of five league games will be played from October 11 to November 13 before resuming on January 23. The Elite Group knockouts are scheduled to begin on February 8.

The 38 teams – 32 Elite and six Plate – will be split across five groups. The Plate Group will host a separate knockout tournament to adjudge the winner. The finalists from the Plate Group will proceed to the Elite groups next season. Likewise, the two teams finishing at the bottom of the combined standings of the Elite group will be relegated to the Plate circuit next year.

While Hyderabad and Meghalaya were promoted to the Elite groups this year, Manipur and Goa were pushed to the Plate groups.
