Rachael Gunn, who goes by her B-girl moniker Raygun, became one of the most viral athletes at the Paris Olympics earlier this year.
However, unlike other athletes who found instant fame during Paris 2024, Raygun became a meme for her dance moves during her performance. She faced relentless trolling on the internet which then mushroomed into sinister conspiracy theories about how she had qualified for the Olympics to begin with.
Now, Raygun has decided to cash in on the online vitriol: by throwing down the gauntlet at her haters and asking them to prove that they are better dancers than her.
Raygun recently launched an online collaboration with a service called Finder where the best solo dancer will win $5000, while $10,000 is up for grabs for the best dance crew of two or more people.
“I’ve heard some of you can do better than me. Really? Let’s find out, shall we?” the breakdancer said in a promotional video before bursting into a dance.
How Raygun became a Haloween hit
She also went to an event in Australia on Halloween where fans mimicked her attire and her infamous dance moves.
Reports from Australia state that Raygun’s ensemble at the Paris Olympics became one of the most copied attires at Halloween with Australian footballer Cortnee Vine being the most famous celebrity to sport it.
In an interview with Fox 101.9 Melbourne’s Fifi, Fev and Nick for Breakfast, Raygun spoke about leaving her home for Haloween and spotting people trick-or-treating with Raygun costumes.
“I was coming home from the shops yesterday and I saw someone dressed as me out trick-or-treating with their kids. I wound down the window and I was like, ‘I love your costume’, and they were stunned,” she said.
Away from Australia too Olympic gold medallist Mondo Duplantis’ fiancee Desire Inglander dressed as Raygun and posed for a photo for social media while she was in a mid-Kangaroo hop. Duplantis meanwhile posed as the Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikec.
