Yashasvi Jaiswal’s first day of Test cricket in Australia didn’t go well as he was dismissed for a duck in the first innings. But the second day couldn’t have been more contrasting.
The youngster, who had a day to remember with the bat finishing unbeaten on 90, shared a funny moment with Marnus Labuschagne on the field. In the 44th over of India’s second innings, allrounder Mitch Marsh delivered a length ball angling away from the left-hander. As he had shown right through his knock, Jaiswal displayed sound defensive technique to tap the ball toward the point region and took off for a cheeky single. But realising the run wasn’t there, he turned back to return to the batting crease as Labuschagne swooped in to pick up the ball.
As the Aussie fielder attempted to throw the ball but pulled out in the end, Jaiswal still hadn’t made it over the line, but he stood there and motioned as if he was going to put his bat over the line couple of times as well as his foot. It drew a chuckle from both the batter and the fielder.
