No chips and cookies: Elon Musk's mother follows these nutrition rules at home

Thanks to the rapid conjugation between our daily lives and technology in today’s face-paced world, tech mogul Elon Musk is a household name. He is a globally recognised businessman and investor known for his key roles in the space company SpaceX and the automotive company Tesla Inc. However, before the whole world got to know the ‘gifts’ of Elon, it was his mother Maye Musk who sniffed the ‘X Factor’ in her son. A model and dietitian, Maye is up and running even at 76. The mother of three has been a model for 50 years and still holds the power to besmirch with her gorgeous appearance. Her secret to keep up with her ageless beauty? Being mindful about what she puts into her mouth.
Maye Musk isn’t the one who would make a compromise when it comes to nutrition. During an appearance on Fox Business’ ‘The Bottom Line’, Musk was asked about ‘Make America Healthy Again’, the wellness initiative from the former President Donald J. Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., which focuses on choosing healthier foods. Musk said that she had seen many diet-related health conditions while running her private practice for 40 years. She mentioned, “The main issues were obesity, high cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes. Once they started changing their diets, their blood values looked better — and it just decreases the expense of treating these patients.”

Musk also emphasised the importance of communities working together for better health. She added, “We need to be able to teach people to eat better, and to have communities doing it together, because it’s hard when you have a community that loves to eat a lot of food and then you have to try to pull yourself back.”

As a grandmother of 14 grandchildren, Musk quipped how she takes measures to provide healthy foods and snacks to her grandkids as well. She revealed, “You’ll never see chips and cookies in my home! As my grandkids say, ‘I’ve got no food.’” Musk explained why she would follow such a strict rule even with kids. She emphasised on the addictive nature of unhealthy food and said, “If you start on them, you can’t stop. So I’d rather not start with them.” Instead of processed foods, Musk suggested healthier choices like fruits, vegetables, yogurt, milk, cereal and whole-wheat bread and revealed that she resorted to those options only.

Side effects of consuming chips and cookies:

A diet high in trans-fats leads to obesity, heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes — but if you think that the harm only comes later in life, you are mistaken. Eating chips and cookies can have many negative health effects, such as:
High blood pressure: The high amounts of salt in chips and cookies can cause blood vessels to constrict over time, leading to hypertension.
Weight gain: Chips and cookies are often high in saturated fats and sugars, which can lead to weight gain and a higher risk of diabetes.
Digestive problems: Chips and cookies are low in fibre and fluids, which can slow down digestion and cause constipation.
Heart disease: The high levels of fat and sugar in processed foods like chips and cookies can increase the risk of heart disease.
Cancer: Research suggests that eating sugary snacks like chips and cookies can increase the risk of colorectal cancer.
Brain health: The high amounts of salt in chips and cookies can destabilize the sodium levels in the body, which can impact brain health and lead to conditions like dementia.
