Actor Saif Ali Khan was discharged from Lilavati Hospital on Tuesday, days after he was attacked by an intruder. Khan was taken to the hospital in the early hours in an autorickshaw with a part of the knife lodged in his spine.
On Tuesday, visuals of the actor entering his home went viral on social media. While everyone was happy with his recovery, some could not contain their questions about the actor’s quick recovery.
“A dural tear by foreign material that too knife on the dorsal spine having a CSF leak is not something to be discharged so early. Agreed we even discharge spinal intra dural tumour on 3rd day. Also the knife was so precise to tear dura but not injure dorsal cord a bit is magical,” writes one Neurosurgeon.
Spine surgery recovery is quick these days
Amit Thadani, a surgeon posted on X: Saw the video of Saif walking out of hospital in good condition. That’s the beauty of modern medicine. Dural puncture with CSF leak – close the defect, remove drain in 2-3 days and discharge. Nowadays major spine surgery itself has become a 1-day stay with no bed rest needed. “Most likely exploration of the neck wound would have been negative for major injury with only suturing needed, no stay required for that too. Neck dressing is visible on the video. I don’t see anything fishy as far as treatment is concerned. No comment on the alleged theft,” he has posted on X.
“Surgeons did a great job”
Dr Sudhir Kumar, popularly known as the hyderabaddoctor on X, has explained why people should not doubt Khan’s fast recovery.
“Are you surprised to see Saif Ali Khan recover so fast after having suffered such serious injuries? You shouldn’t be!
Three factors are responsible:
1. Stab injuries fortunately spared the spinal cord and nerves, and therefore, the actor did not suffer from weakness of legs.
2. Surgeons did a great job and he did not have any complications after the surgery.
3. Saif Ali Khan is known to do regular work outs. Recovery from an illness or after an operation is more rapid and more complete in a physically fit person,” he explains.
Saif Ali Khan is physically fit and that helped him recover faster
Being physically fit plays a crucial role in recovering quickly from surgery. A strong, healthy body is better equipped to handle the physical stress of surgery and heal efficiently. Improved heart and lung function in fit individuals ensures better oxygen and nutrient delivery to tissues, speeding up wound healing and reducing recovery time. Physically fit individuals often have stronger muscles and bones, which aid in faster mobility post-surgery. This prevents complications like blood clots or muscle atrophy that can arise from prolonged immobility. Regular exercise boosts the immune system, making fit individuals more capable of fighting off infections that could delay recovery. Fitness helps regulate inflammatory responses in the body, minimizing post-surgical swelling and pain while promoting quicker tissue repair.
Physical fitness is closely tied to better mental health. It helps reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, which are common during recovery, ensuring a more positive mindset and adherence to rehabilitation protocols.
