Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim stated on Tuesday that while dealing with the Premier League club’s issues is irritating, he is confident in his abilities to address them.
United travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day, hoping to rebound from two consecutive defeats. Amorim took over last month, with the team ranked 14th. In his six league games as manager, United had two victories, three losses, and one draw.
The Old Trafford club will spend Christmas Day in 13th place, their lowest position on December 25 since 1986, when they were 15th during Alex Ferguson’s second month as manager.
“This is maybe one of the lowest moments in our club. We have to face it and be strong,” Amorim told reporters.
When asked why the club has not made meaningful progress, the Portuguese manager responded: “If I knew, I would solve all the problems of this club, even this (leaky ceiling).
“I know what I am going to do. That is so clear for me. I will not say I am feeling relaxed because I am really frustrated. It is a very difficult moment but we will solve problems step by step and find answers for everything.
“I just want to win. I don’t care about Christmas. I’m just focused on we need to win the next match. That’s the only thing I care about.”We are privileged (in England) we can play on Boxing Day to give some happiness to the fans and we want so bad to win it.”
Amorim stated that defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Victor Lindelof are still out, and claimed he will reshuffle the squad to ensure there were no fresh injury problems.
“In this moment it’s not rotation to see the players and prepare the future (but) simply to not have injuries,” he added.
“We are trying to address everything. I know that there is a long-term project and we are focused on that. If we have injuries it’s a big problem.”
The 39-year-old Portuguese coach has dropped Marcus Rashford from his squad for the last three games in all competitions, questioning the decisions of those surrounding the striker after he stated that he was ready for a ‘new challenge’.
“Some guys have a big responsibility here because they have been here for a long time,” he said in reference to the 27-year-old United academy product.
“If you have big talent, we need big performance, big responsibility, big engagement to push everybody forward in this moment.”
