Man Utd look to cash-in on Marcus Rashford in the transfer window next month (Reuters)
Manchester United are open to sell striker Marcus Rashford in January’s transfer window, provided the club gets fair offers for the English striker. The 27-year-old has been with the club since the age of seven, playing for the Red Devils Academy and then coming into the first team in 2016.
Rashford, who was once considered to be one of the brightest talents in England, has often been termed inconsistent, scoring 30 goals in 2022/23 season and then returning with just 8 in the 2023/24 season. This season he has just 7 goals in all competitions with his most recent strikes coming against Everton.
According to the report, one of the main reasons for this sudden transfer call is because owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to put the financial position of the club in a better position.
Also, if reports are to be believed, the club is concerned about the striker’s ‘lifestyle choices’. This stems from an incident at a drink-fuelled night in Belfast in January which led to Rashford being fined two weeks’ wages after not attending the team’s training following that night.
Also, in a 2022 Boxing Day fixture against Wolves, he was benched for ‘internal disciplinary’ reasons. These incidents, as reported by the Telegraph, may have played a part in United’s hierarchy thinking that the striker’s focus is not in the team, apparently because he was dealing with some off-field issues.
Earlier this month, United manager Ruben Amorim said in a media statement that he is expecting Rashford to perform better and hoping to see more from the striker. The 27-year-old has scored 138 goals with 67 assists in 425 senior appearances. He has also won five different trophies, which include two FA Cups and one Europa League cup.
