Domestic veteran Paras Dogra on Saturday became the second-highest run-scorer in Ranji Trophy history during J&aK’s third-round match against Services at the Sher E Kashmir Cricket Stadium, Srinagar

Dogra, who began his Ranji Trophy career with Himachal Pradesh in 2001, reached the feat when he crossed 16 runs during J&K’s first-innings. He leapfrogged Devendra Bundela (9201) and Amol Muzumdar (9202) to become the second-highest run-getter in the tournament, only behind former India opener Wasim Jaffer (12,038).

J&K rolled Services over for 71 in the first session before No. 4 Dogra braved a batting collapse to reach the milestone.

Dogra represented Himachal in 95 Ranji matches, racking up over 6418 runs with 19 hundreds and 24 fifties before moving to Puducherry in 2018. Dogra became Puducherry’s first Ranji Trophy centurion and piled up 11 hundreds across five seasons before moving to J&K this season as captain.

The right-handed batter who will turn 40 next month had recently told The Indian Express said that the move to J&K happened after the team was eyeing for an experienced leader. “The association called for an experienced leader on the field and that’s how they approached me. At this age, I am just open to new experiences and enjoying every bit of my time on the field. It’s a talented unit and I hope everything goes well,” Dogra recently told The Indian Express.

Dogra holds the record for the most hundreds among active batters in the Ranji Trophy (30), ranking third on the all-time charts behind Jaffer (40) and Ajay Sharma (31). Dogra has also racked up nine double-centuries in the Ranji Trophy, a joint-record he holds with Cheteshwar Pujara.
