Legendary Australian bowler Glenn McGrath has urged Pat Cummins and co to go hard on “emotional” Virat Kohli in the upcoming five-match Test series against India, starting from November 22 at the Perth.
“Without a doubt, especially after coming off a 3-0 loss against New Zealand, you’ve got plenty of ammunition to back yourself up,” McGrath told CODE Sports.
“So put the pressure on them and see if they’re up for it.”
The 36-year-old has averaged 31.68 in his last 60 Test innings but this calendar year the numbers have fallen further to unimpressive 22.72 from six Tests. But Kohli has shown a special liking for the pacy Australian pitches, averaging 54.08 in four Tours down under.

“If they go hard at him, if he gets in the fight with emotions, there’s a bit of chat out there, who knows he might sort of lift,” McGrath said.
“But I think he’s probably under pressure a little bit, and if he has a couple of low scores to start with, he could really feel it.
“I think he’s quite an emotional player. When he’s up, he’s up, and when he’s down, he sort of struggles a little bit.”
Former India coach Ravi Shastri reckons Kohli will overcome the recent slump in form and make the best of Australian conditions. “Well, the king is back in his territory,” Shastri said on the ICC Review show. “That’s all I will tell (the doubters). When you’ve earned that title after your exploits in Australia, it will be on your (opponent’s) mind when you go out to bat.”
