Just days after denying the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) permission to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy , the Indian government has now refused to approve the Kabaddi federation’s request to participate in a series of friendly games in Pakistan. The move reiterates India’s stance on not participating in any sporting activity on Pakistan soil. The last time the Indian cricket team travelled to Pakistan was back in 2008 for the Asia Cup.
Pakistan Kabaddi Federation President told news agency AFP that they were disappointed with India’s decision to call off the tour. “Our counterparts in India have conveyed the inability to send their team to Pakistan. We regret this decision, as we had eagerly anticipated hosting them here,” Sarwar said while talking to APP.
With how things stand, India’s blind cricket team is also unlikely to travel to Pakistan for the World Cup to be held in Lahore and Multan in the last week of November.
Earlier, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about the refusal of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to cross the border for the 50-overs tournament next year. The BCCI was reported to have asked for India’s games to be shifted to a neutral venue like Dubai.
