In the end, it came down to a matter of millimeters. Off the last ball of the Indian innings, Richa Ghosh smashes one over cover off Qiana Joseph and the ball was flat but still heading towards a six, but landed just inside the boundary cushion eventually. That was the difference between 358 and 360 for India’s total. They eventually finished on 358/5, equalling their best ever total in women’s ODI history.
India’s other instance of scoring this total was when Deepti Sharma opened the batting and scored 188 to lead her side to 358/2 against Ireland in Potchefstroom on 15 May 2017. These are India’s only two totals of 350+ in this format.
Harleen Deol led the way with her first ODI century, scoring 115 off 103 balls with 16 fours in her knock. The platform was set by the red-hot Smriti Mandhana, who scored her sixth straight international 50+ score, a run stretching back to the third ODI in Perth against Australia. She and Pratika Rawal shared a second straight 100-run stand, with the latter scoring her first international half century in a much improved batting display compared to her nervy debut. Harmanpreet Kaur looked aggressive in her brief stay for a 18-ball 22. The final flourish came thanks to the partnership between Jemimah Rodrigues (36-ball 52) and Deol.
Earlier, India won the toss for the first time in 5 matches in this tour, and Harmanpreet Kaur opted to bat in in Vadodara on Tuesday.
India named an unchanged side for the match. India took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series after their massive 211-win win at the same venue on Sunday with in-form batter Smriti Mandhana scoring her fifth consecutive half-century. The opener added one more to that list today. India had earlier won the three-match T20I series 2-1 with Mandhana scoring a half-century in every game.
