The Indian Express understands that senior off-spinner R Ashwin is likely to make his return to the XI after missing out on the previous Test for Washington Sundar. It will likely be a direct swap, given Ashwin’s fine record in Adelaide during the last day-night Test in 2020.
Even though India succumbed to their lowest Test total (36 all out) in 2020, Ashwin emerged as the pick of India’s bowlers with five wickets in the match that Australia won by eight wickets. India could also see a toss-up between Harshit Rana and Akash Deep for third seamer’s spot behind Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. With Shubman Gill also returning fit, India will drop Dhruv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal to accomodate him and Rohit.
