Mason Jar Crafts: Make a Thankfulness Jar
Practice Gratitude
by Adrienne Speer
My life can be pretty hectic. Whether I’m running late to classes, trying to fit housekeeping in between studying, or applying for jobs and internships, I usually end up feeling worn out. Mood swings are common, and I often feel happy one minute and but disappointed the next.
Lately, though, I’ve been making an effort to approach life with positivity and thankfulness. One of my favorite bloggers, Louise Pentland from Sprinkle of Glitter, encourages her readers to practice gratitude every day. I know I tend to ignore the lovely, happy things in my life and instead stress over the bad things, but Louise challenged me in her most recent post. She wrote: “Having an attitude of gratitude is such a huge key to happiness and something that I regularly have to remind myself of.”
Me too! So, to encourage myself to think joyfully and remember gratefulness, I have decided to begin a practice, a ritual, that I think might help me to remember my daily blessings. You should try it too!
To Make a Thankfulness Jar, all you have to do is:
Find a pretty, inspiring box or jar (I know you love Mason Jars!) to place on your dresser or nightstand. Every time something happens that makes you feel happy, or any time you experience a beautiful moment, write it down on a piece of paper and put it in the mason jar. If you cook a yummy dish, learn a new song on the guitar, or have a meaningful conversation with a friend, you can write the memory down and save it in your jar. Even seemingly insignificant experiences, like smelling a beautiful, fragrant rose, or hearing your favorite song on the radio, can be important enough to write down and keep forever.
After a little while, your Thankfulness-Jar will be overflowing with moments of joy, and you will be able to look back and remember the times you’ve felt blessed. The little things in life are sometimes the most important, and practicing gratitude can make even a dreary day feel a little brighter!
