The infinity scarf is a wardrobe staple. Once you learn how to make your own you can have one to match every outfit! They are so easy to make, you could even share the warmth, and make them for all of your friends and family.
Supplies for Infinity Scarf:
- Jersey fabric: (40″ X 36″) Or ask store clerk for one yard.
- Ruler
- Pins
- Fabric shears
- Sewing machine
Step 1: Cut Fabric
Lay out your yard of jersey fabric so the edges are touching. Cut out approximately 40″ by 36″, Use your fold wisely, remember half of 40 is 20, and the length of your fabric was already 36″ (1 yard), So cut out 20″ along the fold to create your 40″ by 36″ rectangle. If you cut more than this that’s fine, any less and your circular shape won’t lay correctly.
Step 2: Pin Fabric
Pin the 36″ long sides together so their wrong sides are touching, you are going to seal this seam shut using the french seam to encase the raw edges.
Step 3: Set Machine
When sewing with jersey, you must use the zig zag stitch or your thread will tear when the fabric stretches. To stitch with the zig zag stitch, set your dials to the zig zag setting, you can keep your stitch length between 2 and 3, and move your stitch width to 2 or 3. You can now sew on jersey with ease.
Sew the sides together, removing pins as you go.
Step 4: French Seam
Once you have sewn the sides of your scarf together, turn it inside out, so the right sides are touching, and stitch up the sides again just beyond your seam, to encase the raw edges forever. This will require a 1/2″ seam allowance.
Step 5: Wear it
That is all there is to it, you have now completed your infinity scarf. Iron it out as needed and clip off any loose threads.
Now rock that look to infinity, and beyond! 😉
