With the arrival of the holiday season, we all are giving in to the temptation of cookies, pies, and desserts. It is only normal that you go into a sugar rush, after indulging in the lip-smacking dessert, especially when you have family gatherings, and parties to attend. But is satisfying your sweet tooth coming with a cost to your health? Excess intake of processed sugar can result in higher blood pressure, inflammation, weight gain, diabetes, and even fatty liver disease. It is also linked to an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.
Dr. Saurabh Sethi MD MPH, a gastroenterologist, who goes by the name @doctor.sethi, has a following of 965K followers on Instagram, and 475,000 on TikTok, has revealed what could happen if you eliminate sugar for 14 days.
“As a gastroenterologist and hepatologist, I’ve witnessed remarkable transformations in my patients after they remove sugar from their diets. Within just 14 days, their liver and gut health shows significant improvement. Tune in to discover the effects of cutting out sugar,” Dr. Sethi said in his Instagram note.

The gastroenterologist revealed that cutting sugar for two weeks would reduce the puffiness of the face. Speaking about the miraculous effects of no sugar for 14 days, he adds, “If you cut out sugar for just 2 weeks, here is what you will notice. Your face will likely shift from looking rounder to a more natural shape. Any puffiness or fluid retention around your eyes will also reduce.”
Another positive impact of cutting sugar from the diet is losing

Cutting processed sugar from the diet will also benefit your gut. “Additionally, eliminating sugar leads to a happier gut by restoring a healthy gut microbiome. Lastly, if you have acne or red spots, your skin should improve and look clearer,” the doctor added.
According to the FDA, the Daily Value for added sugars is 50 grams per day based on a 2,000-calorie daily diet.
