Having taken a wicket off the first ball in a Test for the third time in his career, Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc did sound a warning to India on the opening day of the Pink Ball Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy at the Adelaide Oval on Friday afternoon.
Starc, who removed last-match centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal, ended with six wickets in India’s first innings and termed the first-ball dismissal of Jaiswal as a nice way to start the game.
“Nice way to start the game. Get one on target and away we go,” Starc said while speaking with ABC Sports after the day’s play.

With India recovering in the first hour of the day after Jaiswal’s fall with KL Rahul and Shubhman Gill adding 68 runs for the second wicket, Starc led Australia’s pace attack picking up two more wickets in the first session with Scott Boland picking one with India finishing the first session at 82 for 4.
India then lost six more wickets in the second session as Starc bagged six wickets in the innings and the fast bowler termed the fightback by Australia bowlers as a good start to the Test match. “I just think it was a good day all around. I think I’ve said it before. I think we were probably a fraction wide in the first hour, which they climbed into a bit. And probably got a few away that we weren’t too happy about. But I think after that first hour, we were pretty bang on with the ball. And then to bowl them out in the way that we did was, was a good start and I think, you know in testing times, with the sort of, under lights with the new pink ball and with a good attack, I think our top three were fantastic tonight,” said Starc.
Australia were placed at 86 for 1 in their first innings with Nathan McSweeney unbeaten on 38 runs while Marnus Labuschagne batting on 20 off 67 balls.
Starc praised Labuschagne when asked about the batsman facing a lot of criticism from the media and whether being good with the criticism. “Yeah, he (Marnus) has hit 1000 balls. I think he has had it. It sounds like he’s had a hit everyday since the Perth Test. So no, fantastic for the boys, I think certainly a lot of outside noise, but for them to fight the way they did in the last session. Arguably the toughest session of pink ball cricket is that last session with you know quality bowling attack with the new pink ball. So fantastic to see and hopefully they can go on tomorrow,” said Starc.
