FIDE CEO Emil Sutovsky has not minced his words on Magnus Carlsen.
Sutovsky has slammed Carlsen for his vicious attack on Deputy president of chess’ global governing body, Viswanathan Anand, saying the Indian is not fit for his job.
“For all his good qualities, he was not ready for this job. That’s what I feel,” Carlsen has said on Anand in an interview to “Take Take Take.”
FIDE CEO has criticized the chess streamers for also helping Magnus Carlsen’s agenda.
“It is funny how some platforms/streamers downplay the “we can just keep making draws” case. Exactly as they downplayed Magnus’ attacks on Vishy 3 days before. As it did not happen. Of course it is easier to fight me than Indian fans,” he wrote on X.
“Of course now they will try to shift focus or pretend it was just a joke.
“Entire PR strategy is in play.

“So, first you own the part of the major platform/company, then you employ influential people on your projects, then you invite players to the Tour you own based on your judgment, and then all these quasi-independents are on your side, and you can sort of do whatever you want.
“Not quite. Social Media can’t be controlled, and it is all the rage.
“FIDE also won’t keep silent. At least I won’t – and I am there to stay for quite some time.”
Earlier this week Magnus has called Sutovsky unreasonable.
“I don’t think that man can be reasoned with in any way, and we’ve told them such as well,” Carlsen said on Take Take Take after he was asked about the “jeans controversy.”
During that interview, Carlsen had also explained why he enjoy a good rapport with FIDE president Arkady Dvorkovich but not with CEO Emil Sutovsky.
Dvorkovich has generally been true to his word when we’ve talked to him. Sutovsky, not so much. So that’s sort of the difference why Sutovsky is still employed by FIDE.
I have no idea. I’m sure he has some good qualities, but from people I’ve dealt with, nobody’s had particularly good experiences with him, and it’s honestly frustrating, but it’s the way it is.
