DIY Pom Pom Pillow Throw Cover
Did you ever wonder how to sew one of those adorable pillows with the pom poms on them? Well, don’t worry about how to make it happen! We’ve featured this super simple quick stitch sewing tutorial for your viewing pleasure! Never feel like you have sad and miserable throw pillows again! I love adding pops of color and character to my living room with pillows, but finding the right one can be either impossible or too expensive. I have taken to making my own for a fraction of the cost.
This fun pillow screams summer and the fun pom-pom trim adds whimsy and texture. Check out how it’s done below with a few simple steps.
You’ll need:
- Fabric of your choice (I wanted a large pillow, so I cut two 21.5” squares)
- Pom-pom trim (I cut 4 pieces each 21.5” long)
- Straight pins
- Sewing machine
- Coordinating thread
- Pillow stuffing
Let’s Get Started:
Step 1.
Cut out your fabric using pinking shears to reduce any fraying. Measure and cut your trim. Lay down a square of fabric face up. Place a piece of trim along one edge, pom-poms facing in.
Step 2.
Put the second square of fabric on top, facedown, ensuring all the edges line up.
Step 3.
Pin everything in place. Repeat for two of the other sides. For the last side, leave an opening of about 6” or so in the center. This will be for turning the pillow inside out and stuffing it and sew all sides.
Step 4.
Turn inside out.
Step 5.
Stuff the pillow and fold and pin the opening shut, and sew it closed.
This took about an hour to make, and I am so happy with how perfect it came out. It adds just the right touch to my living room, and it makes me smile when I look at it! Make new pillows every season by choosing fabric in colors that evoke that time of year for you (think rich, jewel tones in a heavier fabric like velvet for autumn and winter, or linen pastels for spring).

Thanks and happy DIY’ing
