Last month I went to the movies to see Disney’s Cinderella. The film was all I had hoped for and more; after all, I grew up with Cinderella, Jaque and Gus, so I had high expectations, and this movie lived up to every one of them.
I couldn’t get enough of the sparkly dresses and the joyful attitude of Cinderella, and I wanted to try a craft inspired by the costumes of Cinderella! Try this fun flower craft with your own little princess!
What you’ll need for these DIY flower hair accessories:
- U-shaped or regular bobby-pins
- Small-sized faux flowers (cherry blossoms, primroses, hydrangeas)
- Rhinestone or pearl buttons or beads
- Craft Wire
- Wire Cutters
- Glue
- Glitter
Step 1
First, deconstruct your silk flowers into individual flower blossoms. There should be a hole in the middle of each blossom.
Step 2
Pour a small amount of glue into one container, and a small amount of glitter into another. Using tweezers, dip the edges of the flower petals into the glue, coating only the outer edges.
Step 3
Then dip the glue-coated edges into the glitter. Tap off excess glitter, and set blossom aside to dry. Repeat until you reach the desired amount of glitter blossoms.
Step 4
When your glitter-blossoms have dried, it’s time to move to the next step. Place a button through the hole in the blossom, and fit a length of wire through the button-hole on the other side. If you like, try layering multiple blossoms for a fuller finished flower. Attach the blossom and button to a hairpin by slipping the wire through the U of the pin, and wrapping until secure.
Step 5
Sprinkle your Princess pins over an updo or half-updo for a magical, elegant effect. To make sure your blossoms are secure, spray hair lightly with hairspray beforehand.
Easy Princess Half-Updo
Curl hair into soft ringlets and set with a touch of hairspray. Parting hair in the center, softly twist hair towards the back of the head. Pin twists with bobby pins.
Optional: Twist remaining hair into a small bun and secure with pins. Sprinkle hair with Princess pin flowers, just like the ones on her beautiful ball gown. For extra magic, sprinkle hair with a dash of glitter.
