‘Disrespectful’: Harry Redknapp slams West Ham for Julen Lopetegui treatment

Former West Ham manager Harry Redknapp has termed the club’s behaviour towards current coach Julen Lopetegui disrespectful due to the Hammers reportedly in talks with former Chelsea manager Graham Potter to become the new coach even as the Spaniard remains at the club.

“It’s disrespectful. If you want to get rid of him then you call him and say I’m sorry it’s not worked out, but obviously talks have been going on with Graham Potter,” Redknapp told BBC.

“Potter seems to be the number-one target. But it’s not an easy place to manage West Ham. The expectation there is very high. Whoever goes there, not only do they have to produce a winning team, they’ve got to produce a team that plays what West Ham fans see as the West Ham way,” he added.

Lopetegui’s tenure at the club is reportedly coming to an end with West Ham even cancelling a FA Cup media conference on Wednesday.

West Ham find themselves at 14th in the Premier League table with just 23 points after two heavy defeats against Liverpool (5-0) and Manchester City (4-1).

In the City match, Erling Haaland scored twice on Saturday as City secured back-to-back victories in the Premier League for the first time since late October, when a shocking and unthinkable six-week meltdown began.

In that time, the defending champions played nine league games and won just once, dropping them out of the Champions League qualification spots and raising questions about Guardiola’s stomach for a rebuild.

Now, City can hope for better times ahead — especially after making up ground on second-placed Arsenal and fourth-placed Chelsea after they both dropped points in draws at Brighton and Crystal Palace, respectively, on Saturday.
