Social media has recently become a breeding ground for weird trends, especially on food and drinks. Mixing Diet Coke with a protein shake is one such trend which has been grabbing the headlines lately. The idea behind this unusual mix of two things looks quite bizarre but it has caused a lot of interest among fitness enthusiasts, health conscious people, and skeptics.
Protein Diet coke, or mixing
diet coke with protein shake
, is one of the hottest trends on social media right now. Also known as
Dirty Soda
, this drink is gaining popularity across online platforms like TikTok. So what is it? Is it safe?
A school teacher is behind this viral trend
As per reports,
Rebecca Gordan
, an elementary school teacher from Utah, helped popularize the drink after a video she posted of herself enjoying a cup of the bubbly brew quickly went viral on TikTok.
In this Diet Coke and
protein shake trend
, two different beverages get mixed together. Typically, participants pour a serving of Diet Coke into a glass and add a scoop of protein powder or a ready-to-drink protein shake, creating a fizzy, creamy beverage. The goal is to enjoy the nutritional benefits of protein while indulging in the familiar taste of Diet Coke.
Her post has gone viral since then as many have liked the delicious way of taking more protein.
But wait, is it safe?
“I do find it a bit odd that we are mixing ready-to-drink protein in soda when we could just…drink the protein. The soda really doesn’t add anything of value considering it doesn’t have any calories and certainly doesn’t contain any additional protein or micronutrients,” Destini Moody, a certified dietitian told Healthline.
Mixing carbonated beverages with protein powder could cause bloating or discomfort for some individuals. Additionally, artificial sweeteners in Diet Coke, like aspartame, have been controversial, though current evidence suggests they are safe in moderation.

If you are curious about this trend, there’s no harm in trying it, provided you tolerate carbonated drinks and protein shakes well. However, it’s essential to remember that fitness and health are not one-size-fits-all. If you prefer traditional ways of consuming protein, that’s perfectly fine too.
