Mixed Martial Arts star Conor McGregor has announced that he will be in action against Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition match in India.
McGregor did not reveal the dates for this exhibition match, but said that the bout will pave the way for his “return to the Octagon”.
He also rubbished claims that he will fight Georgian-Spanish mixed martial artist Ilia Topuria.
“The rumors of a bout with Topuria are false. I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India. I have agreed. I will then seek my return to the Octagon,” he posted in a tweet on Tuesday.
McGregor, a two-weight UFC champion, has not fought in UFC since he suffered a broken leg in a TKO defeat to Dustin Poirier in 2021.
He withdrew from the fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in June due to an injured foot.
McGregor’s legal issues
The Irish MMA fighter has had a turbulent few months recently.
The Associates Press reports that a civil court jury in Ireland last month awarded nearly 250,000 Euros ($257,000) to a woman, known as Nikita Hand, who claimed that McGregor “brutally raped and battered” her in a Dublin hotel penthouse.
Hand said the assault happened on December 9, 2018 after a night of partying. The assault left her heavily bruised and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. McGregor, in return, testified that he never forced the woman to do anything against her will and said she fabricated the allegations after the two had consensual sex. His lawyer had called Hand a gold digger.
The fighter, once the face of the Ultimate Fighting Championship but now past his prime, shook his head as the jury of eight women and four men found him liable for assault after deliberating about six hours in the High Court in Dublin.
