Seam spearhead Jasprit Bumrah equalled spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s record by earning the joint-highest Test bowling ratings ever by an Indian player on the eve of the Boxing Day Test.
After his 9/94 in the drawn third Test in Brisbane, the fast bowler added 14 rating points to tie Ashwin’s all-time high of 904 rating points, solidifying his top spot in the rankings.
When Thursday’s fourth Border-Gavaskar Test match starts at the MCG, Bumrah has an opportunity to surpass Ashwin’s rating points, which the now-retired off-spinner attained in December 2016.
Josh Hazlewood (852) from Australia and Kagiso Rabada (856) from South Africa are in second and third place, respectively, behind Bumrah.
Australia batter Travis Head rose to fourth place (825 rating points) in the Test Rankings after his outstanding performances in the current series against India. Head still lags behind former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson (867) and the English duo Joe Root (895) and Harry Brook (876).
Head smashed a scintillating 152 at the Gabba in the previous Test to follow up his century in the second Test at Adelaide.
Steve Smith, a fellow countryman, is once again in the top 10 after his century at the Gabba. With 424 rating points, India’s Ravindra Jadeja remains the best all-round player on the chart, while Australia’s Pat Cummins regained his spot in the top 10 after taking four wickets and scoring 42 runs in the third Test at Gabba.
