Border-Gavaskar Trophy: With Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson taking a wicket off the first ball of the Test for the third time in career, with the wicket of Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal in the second Pink Ball Test in the Border Gavaskar Trophy at Adelaide Oval, a feat only managed by West Indies fast bowler Pedro Collins, all the talk in the commentary boxes was about Starc’s comeback after Jaiswal sledging the pacer in the opening Test at Perth.

While Jaiswal had told Starc “You are coming too slow at me” during India’s second innings at Perth, something which Starc said he did not hear, the fast bowler’s inswinger set the tone for Indian batsmen’s dismal show on the first day at Adelaide.

“Mitchell Starc does it again! It’s not unfamiliar territory… so regular, so full, he attacked the stumps. The perfect start for Australia!” former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist said on Fox Sports. Jaiswal had played a knock of 161 runs during India’s second innings at Perth and it laid the foundation for India’s 295-run win over Australia at Perth.

Jaiswal’s ball dismissal drew praise for the Australian pacers from commentator Gerard Whateley too as the Australian Rules football commentator termed the first ball dismissal as a fightback by Australia. ‘Starc opens up. Onto the pads. Jaiswal trying to turn it. He has been given out. Starc has struck off the first ball. Jaiswal LBW. The fightback is on!,” Whateley said on Sen Cricket.

With India posting a first innings total of 180 runs with Starc picking up six wickets for 48 runs and the hosts placed at 87 for 1 at the end of the day’s play, Australian team looks set for a fightback in the five-match series.
