Best DIY Blogs | Sites With Bragging Rights

Here at DIY Projects we try to feature tons of original content, but we also love to showcase the best blogs by featuring content from our favorite DIYers. We thought it would be great to show a little love to our favorites by putting together a list of the top DIY and craft sites, plus we wanted to share with you some of their best projects.

We’ve seen a lot of cool do-it-yourself projects, but we’ve also seen a lot of terrible ones. These blogs consistently have projects we LOVE because their projects are always unique and interesting, plus they actually made these things! Ever tried making a project you found on a blog or on Pinterest only to find that the whole thing was a failure and that the “maker” probably never even made the thing they write about? We have….

These are some of the best DIY sites and blogs we know of:

1. Design Love Fest

Design love fest’s very own Bri Emery is an art director and the Los Angeles-based founder and editor of Designlovefest.  Her clever blogging abilities have launched her into the creative and demanding world of DIY. Her blog oozes with incredible photos of style, DIY, food, travel, entertaining and lot’s more. Designlovefest has been featured in countless magazine publications including Elle Décor, Apartment Therapy, HGTV, Lucky Magazine, Martha Stewart Weddings, The Los Angeles times and more. If that wasn’t enough to make your hungry for more, Bri also teaches photoshop to aspiring bloggers while balancing her Art Director role. Talk about being super woman.

2. Instructables

Finding this blog for me was like opening Pandora’s box of ultimate awesomeness. It’s a combination of all things DIY including (but not limited to) cooking, sewing, constructing, tinkering and more. Whether you’re a hobbyist or you just love the art of “making” there is something here for everyone.  They never leave me thinking to myself, “Should I do this project?” I always wind up doing it. So what’s their story? Instructables was founded by Eric J. Wilhelm on the premise that by sharing projects and connecting with others they would make an impact on the world. Projects indeed bring people together. Instructables has taken a rapid initiative by serving as the springboard to a community of creatives like ourselves. They also run tons of cool contests so go show em’ what you’re made of!

Round up of our two recent favorite projects:

Portable Solar Power Station

Here is a list of everything it does:

Track the sun vertically.
Track the sun horizontally.
Power the entire system with the Voltaic Panel.
Have a minimum of 500mA available to the user.
Provide the user with a port to use for power/charging of devices.
Small and portable design that could fit into a hiker’s backpack. (via instructables)

Wood Lighting Technique

How cool is this project? All you need are a few round tree trunk slabs. I’ve seen them on eBay for pretty cheap. Chances are if you live in a rural area you can find people selling them or giving them away for free. This is such a good idea for a rustic cabin or just to have in your bedroom. Kudos!
