Dayana Yastremska may have been eliminated from the Australian Open in the third round at the hands of Elena Rybakina, but even after that she apparently sent out a desperate SOS via her Instagram Stories asking for a hitting partner.
According to media reports, the Ukrainian tennis player who was ousted after a 3-6, 4-6 defeat to Rybakina, posted a plea for a hitting partner on her social media account.
The ad read: “I need hitting partner! Emergency!! Travelling 25 weeks+”
Her list of requirements did not end there.
Yastremska added that she was looking for a hitting partner in the 18-35 age group. The player also needed to have a “ranking at least top 50 ITF” and needed to be a “minimum former 400 ATP”.
The world No 33 Yastremska, who was a semifinalist in Melbourne last year at the Australian Open, added her contact email for prospective candidates to reach out.
This led to some jokes on the circuit and on the Tennis Channel Live broadcast, as reported by an article on Tennis.com.
Former world No. 1 Lindsay Davenport chuckled that Yasremska’s parameters for the hitting partner “were too strict”. She added that the depth in men’s tennis is the best it’s ever been.
Meanwhile, Prakash Amritraj joked that she missed an opportunity by not asking prospective candidates to “slide into her DMs [direct messages].”
After her ouster from the Australian Open, the first grand slam of the year, she posted on her Instagram handle: “Could be better could be worse, but it is what it is.”
