India’s star left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has been named by the International Cricket Council as the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year 2024.
Arshdeep Singh’s bowling was one of the key factors that took the Indian cricket team to the T20 World Cup title last year. The pacer claimed 36 wickets in 18 matches in 2024.
Arshdeep Singh took his wickets at an average of 15.31. Despite being called in to bowl in the powerplay and death overs, the pacer had an impressive economy rate of 7.49 in 2024.
He took his wickets at a strike rate of 10.80 in 2024.
At the T20 World Cup, Arshdeep tormented the USA team in New York in the group stages, claiming figures of 4/9 in his four overs. Arshdeep Singh also played a critical role for Team India in the T20 World Cup final, with his tight bowling helping India successfully defend a total of 176 in Barbados. He had ended the final with figures of 2/20.
The 25-year-old Arshdeep Singh was also named in the ICC T20I Team of the Year 2024 besides India teammates Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. Rohit Sharma was named as the captain of the T20I Team of the Year 2024.
Only four players acorss the world claimed more T20I wickets than Arshdeep in 2024: Saudi Arabia’s Usman Najeeb (38), Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga (38), UAE’s Junaid Siddique (40) and Hong Kong’s Ehsan Khan (46). But it must be noted that all four players got more matches. Of those bowlers, only Hasaranga featured for a full-member nation.
