Frequent urination

Frequent urination with an abnormally large amount of urine is considered an early symptom of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes as the body tries to free itself of unused glucose through the urine. A recent study conducted on the Japanese population examined the connection between nocturia (waking up at night to urinate) and hypertension. Particularly, the individuals who experienced nocturia were found to have a 40% higher likelihood of developing hypertension.

Chest Pain

Chest pain can occur due to strain on the heart caused by high blood pressure. This symptom should be taken very seriously as it can lead to more severe conditions like heart disease, heart attack, or angina. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), high blood pressure can lead to damage in organs like the heart, kidneys, and brain, and might lead to conditions such as stroke, heart attack, or kidney failure.

Ankle swellings

High blood pressure can force the heart to work harder, which can cause the heart muscle to thicken. The study shows that it makes it less efficient at pumping blood, leading to a buildup of fluid in the lower extremities, resulting in swelling in the ankles. This is a common complication of long-term hypertension

Dizziness

Dizziness

Individuals with high blood pressure may experience dizziness or lightheadedness. A study by the National Institutes of Health, involving 493 elderly participants, found that 52.1% of them reported dizziness, and 62.5% had been diagnosed with hypertension. This emphasises the link between hypertension and balance-related symptoms, particularly in older adults.

Vision Problems

Vision Problems

High Blood Pressure can harm blood vessels in the eyes, leading to symptoms like blurred vision or seeing spots. As per traditional Indian medicine, excessive blood pressure can cause narrowing, thickening, and even blockage of the retinal blood vessels, leading to vision issues such as double vision, headaches, and, in severe cases, loss of vision.
