Sameer Rizvi has smashed two double centuries and two hundreds for Uttar Pradesh U23 in eight days. (BCCI)
Snubbed from Uttar Pradesh’s Vijay Hazare Trophy squad, star batter Sameer Rizci has set the Under-23 One Day State A tournament on fire as he smashed a second double century in a matter of days for the state on Wednesday.
Batting against Vidarbha in a daunting 407-run chase against Vidarbha in Vadodara, captain Rizvi walked in at No. 4 in the 13th over of the chase. After a fine start provided by the openers Shaurya Singh and , Rizvi and wicket-keeper staged an unbroken 296-run partnership in only 173 deliveries. While Siddiqui made 91 of those runs in 68 balls, Rizvi dominated the proceedings with a spellbinding double-hundred, remaining unbeaten on 202 off 105 deliveries with 10 fours and 18 sixes under his belt.
Only four days ago did Rizvi plunder the Tripura U23 attack at the Kotambi B ground in the city with another whirlwind knock. Quicker to the double century then, Rizvi remained not out on 201 off only 97 balls, muscling a whopping 20 sixes besides 13 fours, marking the fastest double century in the tournament. Earlier last week, the former Chennai Super Kings batter smashed hundreds against Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh in successive outings.

The 21-year-old Rizvi was the star for Uttar Pradesh U-23 in the last edition too, smashing a crucial 50-ball 83 in a victorious final last year. Rizvi’s aggregate after six innings in the tournament reads a whopping 728 runs with 52 fours and 64 sixes to his tally. Rizvi had a quiet Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season for UP, scoring 136 runs in eight innings before being omitted from the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad.
The right-handed batter made headlines last year when he was signed by CSK for the IPL 2024 season at a whopping Rs 8.4 crore before being released to the pool last month. Rizvi was signed up by Delhi Capitals for his base price of INR 30 lakh in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
